Academic Interests. My plan will be in American Studies with a focus on musical theatre. So far I have done a lot of work with the structure and theory of musical theatre and the way music and drama work together to create a musical story, and the relationship between musical theatre (or art in general) and culture. I've always loved musical theatre and history and at Marlboro I was able to connect the two in a really wonderful way. It's been a lot of fun so far and I look forward to writing my plan and diving in to my Plan production.

Favorite Marlboro Classes. My favorite classes at Marlboro are the ones where I get to connect a whole bunch of different bodies of knowledge into an understanding of how different aspects of culture interact with one another. Specifically, I've loved Stan Charkey's music history classes and Kate Ratcliff's Family in U.S. History course. In both classes I got a really great broad perspective and was also able to focus on my particular interest in musical theatre.

Favorite Thing about Marlboro. I first came to Marlboro because I was kind of tired of traditional, bureaucratic systems of education. I was frustrated by the lack of individual attention at other institutions, so when I arrived at Marlboro, that was one of the key selling points. I've stayed at Marlboro because, while it was not always easy to figure out who I should talk to about which goals and objectives, I have been able to find a core of faculty and staff who are always helpful and who are willing to put in as much work as I am in order to help get something done.

Summer Plans. My Plan sponsor and I got a grant through the school to go and see 6 Broadway shows in June and a few non-Broadway shows in August; so, I've been writing and thinking and thinking and writing about as much stuff as I can, and I will continue to do that work through the school year as part of my Plan.
