Anne Monahan – Art History, visiting professor

Anne Monahan returns to Marlboro as visiting professor of art history for the 2007-08 academic year. Anne will teach a survey course about world art, and hopes to develop a seminar-format class examining the period from 1900 to 1950 so that students would profit “from a more structured study of the formative elements of modernism.” She is also interested in a seminar to consider the role of the “primitive' in the formation of the modern/postmodern ethos through an interdisciplinary approach using art, film and criticism.

Anne has extensive experience as an exhibition curator at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Mead Art Museum at Amherst College, the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center, and most recently at Colgate University. This valuable experience informs her teaching and own scholarship.
