AcademicsEmma Park - Classics
Emma Park, Marlboro’s 29th Classics Fellow, is currently enrolled in the M.St. program in Classical Languages and Literature at Corpus Christi College of the University of Oxford. She is attracted to Marlboro’s interdisciplinary approach because of her own master’s dissertation comparing Lucretius and Plato. Her work incorporates philosophy, literary criticism, Greek and Latin, and the evolution of ancient culture from the sixth to the first century BC. She plans to continue this scholarship in her future doctorate, incorporating Western reception of the two authors through the centuries, and analyzing their works using aesthetic theories.
Emma’s own experience as a student in the Oxford tutorial system has taught her the value of a good relationship with the tutor to motivate and inspire learning. She will teach both Latin and Greek, and offer a two-part course in literature and philosophy, studying their interdependence over the classical period.
