This course replaces Math I and Math II. It is no longer necessary to take a whole course in algebra or pre-calculus to satisfy the prerequisites for science and math courses. Just review the weak areas of your math placement evaluation and sign up for topics covering those areas. The course is divided into 49 units. Topics range from factoring equations to manipulating logarithms to working on word problems and applications. One credit will be earned for each group of seven units completed (therefore the number of the topics you choose must be a multiple of seven). Materials for each topic will be provided for students to work through according to their individual pace. Students select the topics they will complete, subject to the approval of the instructor. The class will be divided into study sessions, one for each unit.
Credit rules: At the end of the spring semester, any complete sets of 7 units will be taken together and given a grade for the appropriate amount of credit. These will be the units with the smallest numbers (including unused units from the fall semester).
Dropping and signing-up for units: If you wish to drop a unit that you have signed-up for, you must notify the instructor at least 3 days in advance of the session for that unit. You can sign-up to a unit at any time.
Prerequisite: None
