Plan of Concentration: Theatre and Sociology with a concentration on the silence within trauma, transmittance of personal narrative, and memory.
Thoughts on the role of Peer Coaches at Marlboro: Peer Coaches at Marlboro are an incredible resource for planning anything from the week ahead to the semester ahead. Peer Coaches can help students organize by asking them to verbalize and visualize what needs to be accomplished. Coaches can provide help in finding out how a student’s time is spent, when their most productive times are, and how to most effectively get their work done. We provide assistance in time management, credit load, reading strategies, project planning, note taking, and any sort of scheduling.
Favorite Marlboro class: My favorite class at Marlboro was Performing Normalcy. The class focused on the history of freak shows and how that translated into how we continue to “freak” people today. The class helped me see the parallel in the traditions of “freaking” people to the way we create “others” in our own communities as well as in the international community.
Community Involvement: I have been involved in the theatre department since my freshman year. I’ve participated in multiple Plan Productions, as well as shows put on by guest directors. I am also on the Committee on the First Two Years where we discuss ways of improving the freshman and sophomore experience at Marlboro.
Advice to Students: Take advantage of the great resources that the Peer Coaches provide! Meeting with a Peer Coach helps students plan their work in a relaxed and productive situation, free of the stresses brought on by the classroom. Discussing your classes and projects can be a helpful way to get motivated and excited about your work. Some of our best ideas come to us when we articulate work that lies ahead because it gets the creative process rolling. Come on by!
