Admissions Application Review Process
Each Thursday, students elected by Town Meeting, faculty and staff members meet to discus the completed application files. We come together as a group to voice our evaluations of each applicant's academic qualifications and suitability for Marlboro. Typically, we are able to provide a decision within two weeks' of receiving the necessary submitted application materials.
Because this is a committee of individuals with singularly independent minds, it is not possible to give you a formula by which we evaluate applications. One member may place great emphasis on the transcript, while another may consider the writing samples to be a particularly accurate indicator of a student's abilities.
It is safe to say, however, that the application files are studied to find evidence of intellectual promise, self-motivation, self-discipline, personal stability, social concern and the ability and desire to contribute to the college community. As these qualities are not easily quantified, we therefore look well beyond standardized test scores to get a sense of who each applicant is. Marlboro has a "need blind" admissions policy, which means we make our admissions decisions without regard to applicants' financial abilities.
