Financial Aid

Marlboro College is committed to helping every student who qualifies for financial aid assemble the resources necessary to attend. More than 80 percent of all Marlboro students receive financial assistance, and the decision to seek financial aid does not affect a candidate's chances for admission.

An Investment in Yourself

Investing in higher education is one of the wisest decisions you can make. At Marlboro, we believe the pursuit of a college education should not be compromised by financial concerns. We seek a highly qualified and diverse student body and provide a strong financial aid program that enables students from all economic backgrounds to enroll.

Our office of financial aid understands that families' financial situations rarely fit into neat categories; therefore, we give your financial concerns the personal attention they deserve. You can be sure that the thoughtful advice and personal assistance we offer will respond precisely to your family's particular circumstances.

Financial Aid Policies

Our Financial Aid Policies are located in the College Handbook.

Students and/or parents have the right to choose any lender they wish. A student may decline all of or any portion of a federal Stafford loan; a parent may decline all of or any portion of a federal PLUS loan at any time before or during a period of enrollment.

Every attempt is made to make a Marlboro education financially possible for qualified students with demonstrated financial need. Each applicant is considered individually, and whenever funding is available, Marlboro may make adjustments to financial aid packages based on unusual family circumstances. It is important that you plan for your education, investigate funding sources, apply for aid carefully, meet the deadline, and ask questions when in doubt.

Your financial aid eligibility will be evaluated each year. Students are eligible to receive aid for the equivalent of eight full-time semesters or until degree requirements are met, whichever comes first.

Be certain to communicate with us in writing about changing circumstances in your family's situation. A brother or sister graduating from or entering college or a significant change in your family's income can have a big impact on your financial need.

Applying for Financial Aid

For first-year applicants who plan to enroll in the fall of 2008, you must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1, 2008.

The FAFSA is completed online at: www.fafsa.ed.gov. The form is user-friendly and reduces the possibility of errors. You and your parents will first apply for separate PIN numbers, which serve as electronic signatures. You can apply for PIN numbers at: www.pin.ed.gov. Using PIN numbers also avoids having to print, sign and mail the signature page.

The FAFSA should be filed after January 1, and before March 1, 2008 for new students.

The FAFSA should be filed after January 1, and before April 1, 2008 for returning students.

The FAFSA Code number for Marlboro College is 003690.

In reviewing an application, the Financial Aid Office uses standardized methods and information provided on the FAFSA. This allows us to determine how much the family will be expected to contribute toward the cost of a Marlboro education.

Once the family contribution has been determined, a financial aid package is awarded to meet the remaining costs of the student's tuition and fees, room and board, minus the expected family contribution. A typical financial aid award consists of loans, work-study and grants.

Those who need help financing the family contribution have access through the College to low-cost payment plans as well as additional parent and student loans. We encourage students to apply for outside scholarships (see our "Financial Aid Links" section for help) as these funds also help to directly reduce the expected family contribution.
