Marlboro's first commencement, in 1948, boasted Robert Frost as its speaker, presidents from a dozen colleges in attendance and Hugh Mulligan as its one graduate. This year, Marlboro's 57th commencement features 55 graduates, fewer presidents and two old friends from Washington, D.C. Commencement speaker John Podesta and Marlboro President Ellen McCulloch-Lovell worked together on the staff of U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and in the Clinton Administration. Podesta, who served as Clinton's chief of staff, recently founded the Center for American Progress, one of the country's few liberal think-tanks.
