The falling rain could not dampen the spirits of the sixty-nine graduates, many of whom adorned their mortar boards and gowns with personal items, or eschewed the basic black altogether to make their own fashion statement. In addition to the normal pomp and circumstance, it was a time to bid fond farewell to retiring faculty members, Luis Batlle, Tim Little and Bob Engel. It also marked the first commencement for many new community members, including faculty dean Richard Glejzer. And still for others the cycle repeated itself. As it did for the Reverend R. Dewitt Mallary, who delivered the valediction on the graduation day of his granddaughter, Rebecca, just as he had done 33 years ago at the graduation of his son, Peter. (All pictured at right.)
