News Haiti Earthquake Relief Efforts

Student Nicole Hammond '10 writes:
In response the rising voice of concern for crisis in Haiti on campus, Lynette Rummel's Dedicated Hour group has decided to organize a community-wide relief effort.

We have selected "Partners in Health" as the recipient of our Have a Heart for Haiti fundraiser. We were particularly impressed by their excellent reputation, long history of work in Haiti, and their holistic approach to health-related issues.

We do not want to discourage anyone from participating in the Have a Heart for Haiti fundraiser because of such concerns! Therefore, we have opted to also receive checks made out to any organization that is presently doing work in Haiti. The matched donation from these checks will go into our general fund for Partners in Health, but we will send the original checks on to the designated organizations on your behalf. Please note that we cannot accept cash earmarked for another organization-- you must write a check if you want your donation to go somewhere besides Partners in Health.

Our president, Ellen, has been so generous as to be the first to contribute, personally donating $250. We would like to challenge each constituency of the school, faculty, staff, and students to meet or exceed Ellen's initial contribution.

Our fundraiser ends on February 12, 2010 after the Have a Heart for Haiti bake sale. You can support us with donations by approaching any of the point people listed in previous emails/on Nook, or by leaving money in the jar on Sunny's desk. We encourage you to check the updated totals on Nook, in the Town Crier, or in the dining hall.

DONATIONS OF BAKED GOODS would also be appreciated, and can be dropped off at Lynette's office on or before Thursday, February 11th, or in the dining hall at lunch on Friday, February 12th. Thank you for your generosity, and please keep contributing!
