NewsPress Release: 11/13/00 "Conference of the Birds" Comes to Marlboro College
MARLBORO, VT Í On Sunday, November 19, at 7 p.m. in the Whittemore Theater, Marlboro College theater professor Eric Bass and Putney"s Sandglass Theater present "Conference of the Birds." The play, performed by Windham County youth between the ages of thirteen and sixteen, is based on the Sufi tale of the same name.
"The Birds" was the first production of the Sandglass Theater Summer Youth Workshop, and played to full houses through six performances in Putney. The story follows a flock of birds in search of a spiritual king. The actors play both human characters and animal puppets, as they explore metaphysical themes with a compelling story.
The play, directed by Eric Bass, was adapted by Peter Brook and Jean-Claude Carriere. The Whittemore Theater is fully accessible, and the performance is open to the public. Tickets cost $8.50 and will be available at the door. For more information, please call (802) 387-4051.
