MARLBORO,
VT - Marlboro College welcomes Mary White to the Marlboro College
community this fall as the new library director. White first came
to Vermont to attend Castleton State College before going on receive
her masters degree in library science at the University of Michigan
in 1979. With experience as the head of technical services, and
coordinator of a major renovation project at the Robbins Library
in Arlington, Massachusetts, White is well-prepared for Marlboro.
White says she had always known about Marlboro College, and is attracted to Marlboro's Town Meeting system of governance, and its reputation for being academically challenging, while generous with individual attention to students.
This year White hopes to streamline material acquisitions, and expand the library's electronic resources. Over the next few years she will be coordinating Marlboro's $2 million addition of a wing to the Rice library. "I've been a professional librarian for 20 years and I've never had a boring day" White said. "I love the work and the nice people you encounter."
