NewsPress Release -Marlboro Senior Discusses Adolescents at Risk
MARLBORO, VT - Monday, April 30, in the Appletree building at 4 p.m. Marlboro College senior Colin Gasamis will discuss "Adolescents at Risk: Assessment and Treatment Approaches." Gasamis' talk will focus on this seven-month internship working with adolescents at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts.
Working for the Massachusetts Department of Social Services from June to December 2000, Gasamis worked with at-risk adolescents in a clinical setting. Based on his experiences and his studies at Marlboro, Gasamis will discuss treatment approaches and their implementation in a partial hospitalization treatment model through highlighting four case studies.
This lecture is presented as partial completion of Gasamis Plan of Concentration, Marlboros version of the undergraduate major. The Plan is similar to a masters thesis: students work one-on-one with faculty and write an extensive research paper and complete an independent project. Work is evaluated in an oral examination with an outside expert. After graduation, Gasamis, a native of Dracut, Massachusetts, hopes to work at McLean Hospital as a clinical educator.
This event is free and open to the public, and the Appletree building is fully accessible. For more information on this or any other event, please call (802) 257-4333 or check out Marlboro online at www.marlboro.edu.
