NewsPress Release: 11/15/01Dance Performance at Marlboro Includes Student and Faculty Work
MARLBORO, VT - On Friday, November 30, and Saturday, December 1, at 8 p.m., Marlboro College will present a dance performance entitled, "Visual Aphorisms," in the Whittemore Theater.
The performance will include presentations of original student choreography, as well as works by dance faculty members Zoe Mass Fyfe, Dana Holby, and Alison Mott. The faculty works will be performed by the Marlboro College Performance Workshop.
The Performance Workshop was first formed in spring 2000 to offer an opportunity for student-dancers to work on a repertory that would challenge their talents and give performance and choreographic outlets. Each semester, students must audition for membership. This fall's members include Emily Amanna, Shura Baryshnikov, Jennifer Bilodeau, Alexis Brown, Margot Fivash, RoseAnna Harrison, and Cullen Schneider. The group has rehearsed many hours each week this semester in anticipation of these performances on the Marlboro campus, as well as possible performances in China during spring break 2001.
According to Marlboro Dance Professor Dana Holby, the rehearsals have featured "a lot of extremely wonderful work, with a very positive sense of growing, working as a group, and looking forward to putting more energy into learning Chinese culture, history and language along with perfecting our performance."
Visual Aphorisms will include a new quartet piece by Fyfe; three works by Mott (two re-creations called "Interlopers" and "Rewind" and one new piece of choreography); and four new pieces by Holby (a dance, two solos -- one of which will be accompanied by the Marlboro Women's Chorus-- and a media piece in collaboration with Marlboro students Hilary Baker and Emily Downs).
Admission to the performance is free and open to the public. The Whittemore Theater is fully accessible. For more information, please call 257-4333 or visit the college online at http://www.marlboro.edu.
