NewsRunner Dedicates Marathon Run to Marlboro College Alumna Laura “Lollie” Winans
Marlboro, VT--Ted Hobart, of Arlington, Virginia will be running the Vermont City Marathon in Burlington, VT on May 29, 2005. Hobart will be running his 3rd marathon in memory of Laura “Lollie” Winans, who attended Marlboro College from 1990 to 1991, and Julianne Williams, who were murdered on the Appalachian Trail on Memorial Day weekend in 1996.
By running the Vermont City Marathon, Hobart wants to raise more national attention about the tragic deaths of these two incredible women who were killed because they were lesbians. He also wants to encourage others to campaign against homophobia and violence against women. Hobart and Winans became friends while students at Sterling College in Craftsbury Common, VT. Hobart has been collecting sponsorships on behalf of Outright Vermont in honor of the two women.
Hobart ran two previous marathons (Mardi Gras, February 2004 and Marine Corps, October 2004) with the National AIDS Marathon Program. He is planning on running the Marine Corps Marathon again in October 2005.
