Offices Financial Aid Checklist for Undergraduate Students

Dependent Parent Before Filing FAFSA Apply for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov (the Personal Identification Number is used as your electronicl signature on the FASFA and other document for the Department of Education.)
Student and Dependent Parent New Students: January 1st thru March 1st / Transfer or Returning Students: January 1st thru April 1st Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
Students After filing FAFSA For Students who may be eligible for a state grant, follow up to complete any required applications or forms with your state education agency.
Students After FAFSA has been submitted Review your SAR (Student Aid Report). You will receive an email from the Department of Education after your FAFSA has been processed, before it is sent to the colleges listed on your application. Read all comments and follow the instructions contained therein.
Students and Parents After FAFSA has been submitted If your SAR indicates you are selected for verification you will receive a letter from the college (it may be mailed along with your financial aid award letter) indicating what forms must be completed and returned. If you filed federal tax returns you will be asked to submit an IRS Tax Return Transcript which you will request from the IRS.
Students Various Dates Open all mail from the Financial Aid office. Promptly return any documents that are requested. Follow instructions carefully and watch deadlines.
Students New and transfer students: within 3 weeks of acceptance / Returning students: early to mid-June Review financial aid award. If declining or reducing aid, make changes on your letter, sign, date, and return to the financial aid office within the time table listed in your letter.
New Students After paying your enrollment deposit Students who will be borrowing federal Stafford loans must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN). This is your loan contract with the Department of Education. Refer to inserts with your financial aid award letter.
New Students After paying your enrollment deposit Students who will be borrowing federal Stafford loans must complete Stafford loan entrance counseling. Counseling explains your rights and responsibilities when borrowing federal loans.
Parents After paying your enrollment deposit and reviewing student account bill For parents who will be applying for a Parent PLUS loan, the PLUS application is available on or after June 1st. Refer to inserts with your financial aid award letter.
Students After paying your enrollment deposit and reviewing student account bill For students who will be applying for a Private / Alternative loan, refer to insert with your finanical aid award letter. Marlboro cannot suggest a lender, but our insert will give you guidance on where to search and what to consider.
