Director of Housing and Residential Life

Position Summary
The Director of Housing and Residential Life is responsible for ensuring student comfort, safety and development while at Marlboro College by implementing and managing the student residence life and housing plans and programs.

Responsibilities
- Participate in the development, coordination and implementation of campus housing plans and programs;
- Manage, direct and assess the performance of the 12 student resident assistants and three professional student life advisers in the achievement and implementation of established residential plans and programs;
- Assist in the determination of housing needs, including ADA accommodations;
- Manage residence openings and closings, distribution and collection of keys to student residences;
- Participate on crisis management team in the implementation of campus emergency and crisis management programs, plans and services;
- Prepare and monitor the residential life budget;
- Oversee and participate in residential damage review, assessment and the corresponding billing process;
- Collaborate with plant operations to identify capital improvements and renovations required to maintain the safety, structural integrity and value of residential buildings and assets;
- Maintain and update residential life web page information;
- Present to recommended housing policy changes, justification for the same and participates in decision making process to the Selectboard (campus governance body);
- Ensure adherence with all defined emergency and crisis protocols and processes. Generate incident reports and after hours crisis response reports. Coordinate the appropriate response and follow up by student life advisers;
- Provide support and training to resident assistants on the resolution of housing issues, incidents, and student support networks;
- Serve as primary contact for parents regarding student housing needs;
- Recruit, hire, train and evaluate performance of staff. Identify performance concerns and take appropriate intervention and/or disciplinary action;
- Collaborate in the design and implementation of first-aid and health education programs for residential advisers;
- Assist in the identification and referral of students in need of psychological support services;
- Assist in planning of campus-wide orientation program for new and returning students;
- Manage and direct the activities of the residential assistants, residential life advisers, crisis management and emergency response staff and work-study students within the residential life function.
Position Requirements
- Master’s degree in student development, student personnel, counseling, education or other related profession preferred;
- Three or more years related experience within the field of student relations or advising;
- Strong working knowledge of the concepts, practices and procedures within the field of student life, housing and counseling;
- Ability to listen, obtain clarification and speak clearly and persuasively in all types of situations;
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement and manage effective work flows and procedures;
- Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Gather and analyze information skillfully and develop alternative solutions;
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective project plans and coordinate the efforts of diverse.
