What is available to check out?

Loan Periods

Books, Audiobooks and Compact Discs

Videos (VHS and DVD)

Reserve Materials (Books, videos and other)

Loan Conditions

All materials must be returned on or before the return date or when recalled by the library staff for use by another patron.

Marlboro Town residents, Marlboro College alumni and trustees, and reciprocal borrowers may borrow a maximum of ten items (including a maximum of five audiovisual items) at one time. All other patrons may borrow an unlimited amount of printed resources and a total of five audio and visual items at one time.

Renewal Policy

Patrons may renew materials by logging to their accounts in the library catalog or by requesting renewals from the library staff, provided that these items are not needed by other patrons. All materials recalled by library staff on behalf of other library users must be returned promptly upon notification.

Reserves and A/V Room Policy

All reserve materials leaving the Reserves & A/V room, including the AV materials that are not on reserve, must be charged out at the checkout station within this room. Reserves may be borrowed for three hours during the reserve room hours. Overnight loans are allowed when borrowed less then three hours before closing time. Renewals are only permitted when others do not need the item. For more information, read the Reserve Materials Policy.

Recalling Checked-out Items

Marlboro College Community members may check out books for one semester and videos for 7 days, provided they bring an item back when a Marlboro College student or faculty member requests it for their research. In this case, library staff will e-mail an individual to recall a checked-out library item and will do their best to enable equal access to the same material for multiple library users. This will be achieved through negotiation or by placing an item on a reserve shelf.

All Rice-Aron library users (including Marlboro Town residents and members of institutions that have reciprocal borrowing agreement with Marlboro College) are responsible for returning a recalled material within 10 days. Inter-library loans lent out to institutions out of state will have to be returned within 10 business days. Failure to do so will result in billing the user or institution for the recalled library material in order to buy a replacement copy and make it available to those who need it as soon as possible. Individual or an institution will not be refunded when the material is returned at a later time.

Overdue Materials

Patrons are responsible for all items borrowed on their account. While the Library will make reasonable efforts to contact patrons with overdue materials, it is the responsibility of the patron to know when materials are due and to return them promptly.
