Office of the President

I want to personally welcome you to Marlboro College. Our small and close-knit learning community provides the rare opportunity for independent thinkers to broaden their intellectual horizons and prepare for their most promising future. Whether you are considering a personalized liberal arts education or a graduate program that will help you make a positive difference in the world, Marlboro invites you to explore your deepest interests.

As the president of a college, I am often put in the position of defending the value of higher education. Research reveals that the person with a college degree not only earns more, but is more likely to vote, to give to her favorite causes, and to volunteer. The skills you will gain at Marlboro—to solve problems, to follow creative possibilities, to respect rigor as a way of seeking truth, to see the connections that allow one to make sense of the world and act creatively in it—will prepare you for a lifetime of engaged citizenship in the human community.

As you explore our website, I encourage you think of Marlboro as the most individualized step you can take to create a framework for personal and career fulfillment. I invite you to visit us in person, at our undergraduate campus in Marlboro’s green hills or our graduate campus in lively, nearby Brattleboro. Yours is one of the biggest decisions of your life, and it will take your full consideration to choose wisely. I look forward to meeting you.

Ellen McCulloch-Lovell, President
