A Supportive Learning Community

A Marlboro education is intellectually demanding by design; it is also genuinely supportive. Students have access to individualized guidance and support from faculty, staff, and trained student peers through the college’s academic advising program and academic support services.

Academic advising

All incoming students are assigned a faculty advisor who oversees their academic advising throughout their time at Marlboro. Students meet regularly with their faculty advisor in both one-to-one and small group settings to discuss their academic progress and topics such as getting involved in community life, accessing campus resources, studying abroad, etc. Students are also welcome to meet with the director of academic advising, Catherine O’Callaghan, who works to ensure that all students are fulfilling Marlboro’s academic requirements. Academic support services

In addition to faculty advising, any Marlboro students are welcome to receive direct, one-to-one support from the director of academic support services, Jeremy Holch. Individualized tutoring and coaching can mean the difference between being engaged in a class and being left behind. Jeremy and his student staff offer a number of academic support services for students who need help in a particular subject or who wish to improve their skills in a certain area. Services include:

  • The Writers Block, a writing tutorial center staffed by students who are trained by Marlboro’s writing faculty
  • Peer advising and coaching for guidance on things like course selection and campus life and for help with study skills such as active reading and note taking
  • Peer tutoring in various subjects
  • Academic skills and strategies workshops offered each semester
  • ADHD coaching
