About

What is Ashoka?

Ashoka is a global organization that promotes positive change by supporting people and organizations doing cutting-edge social innovation work that has real impact in the world. Ashoka has been doing this work for over three decades and believes that everyone, in every field, can bring about innovative change. A key part of Ashoka are the Ashoka Fellows, individuals doing amazing work in the world, who Ashoka supports.

What are Ashoka Changemaker Campuses?

Since 2008, Ashoka has offered the Ashoka Changemaker Campus designation to colleges and universities leading the way in social innovation education. Ashoka Changemaker Campuses “share the vision for higher education to become the next global driver of social change by transforming the educational experience into a world-changing experience.” Ashoka campuses contribute something unique to the Ashoka community, for example, a special program or degree, or an innovative governance model.

How Can Marlboro Become an Ashoka Changemaker Campus?

At President Quigley’s request, Marlboro has put together a team of students, faculty, and staff from both campuses to lead the Ashoka process. We’ll be working closely with the undergraduate and graduate school communities to identify opportunities at Marlboro that fit with the Ashoka goals. We hope to support key programs that are already underway at Marlboro.

How Will Marlboro Benefit as an Ashoka Changemaker Campus?

Being an Ashoka Changemaker campus is an opportunity for us here at Marlboro to share the innovative way that we teach and learn with a community of our peers. It is also an opportunity to direct financial and institutional support to the programs at Marlboro that bring about positive change in the world, through direct action, and through education. We’ll also be able to learn from dozens of other schools that also care deeply about making positive change. Moreover, by becoming an Ashoka Changemaker Campus, Marlboro will gain access to the Ashoka Fellows network, an incredible group of changemakers that can offer education, work opportunities and connections to our students.
