Town Meeting Minutes

  1. 400 Seconds of Silence to Commemorate 1619
    1. the Meeting took 400 seconds of silence to commemorate the first year African slaves were brought to North America as a part of the 1619 project: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/08/14/magazine/1619-america-slavery.html

  2. members of Living in Color took over Town Meeting to protest recent racist statements from alumni and community members as well as microaggressions they have experienced on campus
    1. today is a blackout in which members of Living in Color are spending the day on the dining hall stage
    2. members of Living in Color have declared that they are no longer willing to be educators when it comes to racism because they have had little support in their education efforts
    3. they are asking white people to educate themselves, understand what they can do to undo racism, take action against anti-blackness globally
