Asst. Dean of Career Education Responds to Offers of Alumni Help
It was so exciting to see everyone on campus for alumni weekend. Thank you for your outpouring of support and interest in career readiness. I want to introduce myself to you as Assistant Dean of Career Education, and partner with Maia on managing the Branch Out online community platform. My one-woman office is doing all it can to prepare Marlboro students for the world of work - and could use your help!
I understand that alums are ready, willing and able to help support our current student with opportunities. Thank you! Let’s start with Branch Out. We NEED alumni to be active on Branch Out to make the platform valuable and useful to students as well as yourselves. For example, here are some ways to utilize the platform:
- Join Career Communities and post resources. Introduce yourself and your expertise.
- Post a job or internship opportunity on the job board.
- Post into the news feed.
- Check in regularly, like you do on Facebook.
If you do this, then we can highlight content and feature alumni in the digest mailings from Branch Out and through news stories on the website.
All First-Year Students will be asked to join the platform in a few weeks. If they see a vibrant community with content that is useful, then they will begin to engage.
In addition, if you want to try and make an immediate impact, Host an Extern! An externship is a fancy word for job shadow experience. Fill out the form and I will share with our current students who are looking for ways to make the most out of winter break. No guarantees, but the more opportunities we share with students, the better!
More to come. Thanks for all you do!
