Project Description

A study of participatory development in the Phillipines, with particular focus on state and civil society relations. PROJECT: Three papers. The first is an introductory overview of participatory developments as a new paradigm in developmet theory, describing the emergence of civil society as an actor in development. The second is an historical analysis of NGO’s in the Phillipines, tracing their evolution from the American colonial period to the present day. The third considers efficacy of NGO development activities in light of recent changes in the relationship between civil society and the state. Internship: Manila, Phillipines.
