NewsPress Release - 8/21/2000"Recent Paintings" by Linn Bruce in Drury Gallery Aug. 29-Sept.24MARLBORO, VT - Coinciding with the first stirrings of Southern Vermont's fall foliage season, Linn Bruce brings his nature-inspired abstract acrylic paintings to Marlboro College. The show in the Drury Gallery, "Recent Paintings," runs from August 29 through September 24. A reception for the artist will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on September 7.
Bruce lives in Putney, Vermont, and taught at the Putney School from 1959 to 1986. His painting career began in earnest in 1968, propelled by a successful one-man show in Mexico City. Since then he has exhibited in museums and galleries across the continent, including the Hanson Galleries in Chicago, and in a group show at The Boston Center for the Arts. Bruce has also shown his work locally, at Marlboro College, the West Village Meeting House, and the Putney Town Hall.
"My work is inspired by nature," says Bruce. It builds "inevitably from one painting to the next towards an abstract interpretation" of nature. His interpretation of nature is spontaneous. "Like a branch falling in the woods or water flowing over rocks-it happens."
The Drury Gallery is open Sunday through Friday, 1 to 5 p.m., and is fully accessible. For more information, please call (802) 257-4333.
