NewsPress Release: 9/21/01Visiting Artists Present Lecture on Middle EastMARLBORO, VT - Visiting artists and husband-and-wife team Jonathan Sharlin and Olivia B. McCullough will present a lecture called "Letters from the Middle East," at 4 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, in the Apple Tree building at Marlboro College.
The lecture will draw from Sharlin and McCullough's experience traveling on two separate occasions in Israel, where they photographed and interviewed Israelis and Palestinians. They focused on capturing their personal rather than political stories.
According to Sharlin, "Extreme contrasts exist between these two groups; between their versions of history and their present realities. Yet there are commonalities upon which to build a foundation of mutual understanding and respect. Our goal is to cast some light into this labyrinth of ideology, personal tragedy, history, and myth."
This event is free and open to the public. The Apple Tree building
is fully accessible. For more information on this or other events
