Puerto Rican activist, intellectual, and theater director Nelson Roman is executive director of Nueva Esperanza, a community development action group in Holyoke that has successfuly mobilized residents for safe and affordable housing. As if that's not enough, he is also founder and artistic director of Palante Theater Company, New England’s leading small theater highlighting the Puerto Rican/Latinx experience. Marlboro is thrilled to welcome Nelson for a talk about his journey—overcoming obstacles of homeless, poverty, HIV, and discrimination as an openly Gay male—that gives rich context into the work he is now doing with Palante and Nueva Esperanza.
