Climbing Wall

A student climbing at the climbing wallExploring the Climbing Wall, located in the basement of Whittemore Theater, is a great way to stay active.

The space evolved as a result of student initiative. Originally rocks were glued to cinder block walls to create a traverse, now the space features 2600 sq feet of varied climbing terrain including 18’ tall walls, a long overhang, slab climbing, crack climbing, traverse features, a boulder cave, and a moveable wall that goes from vertical to fully overhanging.

The climbing wall offers a variety of climbing options and challenges for everyone from the novice climber to more advanced climbers. The wall offers the chance to learn bouldering techniques, top rope belaying, basic and advanced climbing maneuvers, route setting, and much more!

The routes in the climbing wall are all set by local climbers and everyone who uses the gym is welcome to try their hand at creating the next “Grundledive” at Marlboro.

The wall is free to use and open to all Marlboro Community Members and their guests. Simply stop on down, fill out a waiver, and borrow a pair of climbing shoes. Climbing Wall Monitors are on hand to answer any questions that arise whenever the gym is open.

Monitor training is available for climbers who are interested. Wall monitors must have CPR certification and go through a monitor training with the Climbing Wall Coordinator which is usually offered once per semester and additional times at the coordinator’s discretion.

Hours of Operation:

Please see the Marlboro Community Calendar, OP Board, the E-Crier, and the Climbing Wall Door for hours of operation.

*Additional hours can be made available upon request.*
